Rumburgh Parish Council: Council Tax 2026-27

You may have noticed an increase in the Parish Council Precept on your recent East Suffolk Council Tax bill. This is the portion of your tax that stays local to fund the day-to-day work within Rumburgh.

The Financial Change

While the percentage increase appears high, the actual "out-of-pocket" change for most households is roughly £19 per year.

Property Band.                  Last Year (Approx.).           New Year (Approx.)             Difference.
    Band C    £35.00 /year    £54.00 /year   +£19.00 /year

Why was this increase necessary?

In November, the Parish Council reviewed our financial requirements and workload. To ensure the village remains well-managed and compliant with modern regulations, we made the following decision:

  • Increased Clerk Capacity: We have increased the Parish Clerk’s hours from 3 to 6 hours per week.

  • National Standards: This change aligns with National Association of Local Council guidelines.

  • Workload: The volume and variety of administrative and financial work required to run the parish has grown significantly over time, and the previous 3-hour limit was no longer sustainable.

This adjustment ensures that Rumburgh Parish Council can continue to serve the community effectively and meet its legal obligations.
